Urban exploration has a profound effect on my sense of curiosity for things out of the ordinary. Things don’t come much more out of the ordinary than this place. Formerly a veterinary school in the centre of a bustling city centre, the Horror Labs as they’re now known, certainly holds the prize for the most gruesome explore to date. This accolade will take some serious beating to strip the horror labs of it’s well justified title. This was another of those locations that I just had to see, this single place was the sole reason for our little jaunt across the borders. I’d heard stories of artefacts being removed and vandalised so it was now or never. With urban exploration, you’ve got to strike while the iron’s hot because you never know when that window of opportunity will disappointingly close.
From what I can gather, the vet school closed in the 90’s. Looking at older reports, a lot has changed here, even in the last year. A lot of the good stuff has been cleared away, I mean, the recognisable things like dogs, cats and rabbits, most of the jars left are a bit non-descript. The only part of any interest which remained was the room in the basement which housed the majority of fetid, formaldehyde ridden body parts. We snapped away for a good couple of hours before the overwhelming stench of formaldehyde became just too much. We had a brief wander round the remainder of this dilapidated yet somewhat charming building and then made our exit.
